Our Crowdfunding Groups
The Stillwater CANe project was conceptualized in summer 2019 followed by a community-based educational event during August 2018 for people with Parkinson disease (PD) at Oklahoma State University (OSU).The team members include faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students from three different programs including Communication Sciences and Disorders, Recreational Therapy and Kinesiology, and Nutrition at OSU. The project also includes a collaboration with the Stillwater-based Prairie Arts Center. We currently offer four different community-based programs including physical exercise, diet and nutrition education, SPEAK OUT! and LOUD Crowd programs (aimed at speech and cognitive intervention), and arts-based group for people with PD and their family members. All groups are completely free. These programs are available to any person who has either been newly diagnosed or currently has a diagnosis with typical and atypical forms of PD.
This is the only program of its kind in the entire state of Oklahoma. While the project has garnered attention from several national grantmaking organizations (including Community Grants Program of Parkinson's Foundation), individual donors are needed to continue and amplify programming to our community. You can contribute towards purchase of art supplies for PD Arts group where anyone with PD and his/her family member can join and be part of a socially interactive and creative gathering.
You can contribute to purchase of bottled water to be used for in-person socially distant exercise groups and other programs of CANe project.
You can contribute to purchase of cognitive workbooks, sound level meters, Ipads, and other therapy materials that can be used for the ongoing LOUD Crowd groups.
You can help with purchase of new exercise equipments, accessories, and tools for our ongoing weekly physical exercise program.
You can contribute towards educational seminars and events aimed at increased awareness about different Parkinson disease related symptoms and resources available in and around Stillwater.
You can help cover the SPEAK OUT! therapy services of a newly diagnosed person with Parkinson disease (PD) and/or someone who may not have insurance coverage to cover the speech therapy program
You can contribute towards multi-day or short term training and rehabilitation programs aimed to improve the mobility and independence of people with PD.
You can contribute towards expanding our efforts to reach newly diagnosed people with PD and provide services in underserved regions in and around Stillwater.
