Rowdy Swanson Memorial Scholarship

Rowdy Lee Swanson, of Duncan, Oklahoma, was a junior at Oklahoma State University, member of the OSU Rodeo Team and a PRCA bull rider. But more than that, Rowdy was an all-around good person. At only 20 years old, he was a shining example of how to love others and live selflessly. Rowdy’s life was tragically shortened while participating in a PRCA-sanctioned bull riding event in Mineral Wells, Texas on Thursday, September 17, 2020.

“Rowdy was a wonderful person, teammate, student and friend to so many,” said Cody Hollingsworth, OSU Rodeo Program Coordinator and Head Coach. “He always had a smile on his face and was a joy to be around. His positivity and enthusiasm for life and rodeo influenced us all. Rowdy was a great young man who will be missed dearly.”

Rowdy was a fun loving, brave soul. Despite his tough exterior, Rowdy had a sweet, genuinely kind spirit. Anyone that met Rowdy was affected by his persona and infectious smile he bared so often. Above all, Rowdy was a child of God and inspired others to follow with how he lived his life.

His family is establishing a scholarship in Rowdy’s name as a memorial tribute to him. Their goal is to reach $25,000 to establish an endowed scholarship at OSU in his honor.
