Honoring Oklahoma's Vietnam War Veterans

Our Goal as the Office of Veteran Student Academic Services

As we continue to develop and add programs and events to support our veteran and military-affiliated students at Oklahoma State University-Stillwater, the Office of Veteran Student Academic Services continues to search for opportunities to recognize those veterans in the OSU Family on campus and not on campus. By reaching out to the local community and veterans throughout the State of Oklahoma we hope to increase the interaction of veterans on campus with those in the surrounding communities. The Office of Veteran Student Academic Services at OSU-Stillwater has entered into an agreement with the United States Department of Defense to become a Commemorative Partner with The United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration.

Recognizing Vietnam War Era Veterans and Families

On May 25, 2012, President Barack Obama signed a Presidential Proclamation to commemorate the 50 Anniversary of the Vietnam War from May 28, 2012 through November 11, 2025. The President called upon Federal, State, and local officials to honor our Vietnam veterans, our fallen, our wounded, those unaccounted for, our former prisoners of war, their families, and all who served with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities. The Federal Government will partner with local governments, private organizations, and communities across America to participate in the Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War – a 13-year program to honor and give thanks to a generation of proud Americans who saw our country through one of the most challenging missions we have ever faced.

At Oklahoma State University-Stillwater a Vietnam War Commemoration Committee has been formed to meet the President’s call to recognize our Vietnam Era veterans and their families. The Office of Veteran Student Academic Services, The Center for Sovereign Nations, The Department of Military Science, The Department of Aerospace Studies, American Legion Hanner-Sharp Post 129, Military Officers Association of America, Cimarron Chapter, and several OSU Alumni have formed this committee to plan and execute several appropriate events over the next few years. These events will be designed to bring recognition “to those who answered their country’s call in Vietnam and those who awaited their safe return.” These events will vary with some being held on the OSU campus and others within the local communities.

Your Gift Will Help

The OSU Vietnam War Commemoration Committee is planning to bring the traveling Vietnam War Memorial Wall to Stillwater. Although there is significant costs associated with this endeavor, the committee agrees that this would be the best possible way to not only recognize the sacrifices of the Vietnam Era Veterans and the families of those who gave so much, but to aid in the education of following generations. During the week the "Wall" will be placed, it is hoped that the entire community will visit the site and remember that when their nation called, millions of young men and women answered this call and over 58,000 made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of their nation. Please make a gift of any size to bring the traveling Vietnam War Memorial Wall to Stillwater.

Your contribution to this Oklahoma State University PhilanthroPete project will be managed and receipted through the OSU Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization. Contributions are fully tax deductible unless otherwise indicated in the project rewards section.
