OSU Trombone Octet Japan 2024

The OSU Trombone Octet would like to perform at the 2024 International Women's Brass Conference, to be held in Mito City, Japan from August 14-18.  The IWBC is a bi-annual event to celebrate the tremendous artistry and impact of the world's female brass performers.  In addition to performing at the event, the members of the OSU Trombone Octet will be able to participate in solo and ensemble competitions, attend masterclasses and performances, and enjoy an incredible cultural experience. This is the first time the IWBC has been held outside of the United States.

The OSU Trombone Octet is an award winning ensemble, having won top prizes in the International Trombone Association Emory Remington Trombone Ensemble Competition, the International Women's Brass Conference Ginger Turner Brass Ensemble Competition, and the Down Beat Magazine Student Music Awards.  In addition, the ensemble has performed at the Trombonanza Festival in Santa Fe, Argentina, the American Trombone Workshop in Washington, D.C., the International Trombone Festival at the University of Utah, and the Big 12 Area Trombone Conference at Texas Tech University.  The octet has collaborated with world class trombone artists such as Viento Sur Trombones, Luis Fred, and Peter Steiner, and has premiered compositions by Marshall Gilkes, James Kazik, Todd Malicoate, Joseph T. Spaniola, Seth Giles, and Ethan Do.

The current OSU Trombone Octet members are Jonathan Hanna, senior music education major from Wagoner, Oklahoma, Ethan Do, junior music performance major from Edmond, Oklahoma, Caleb Gammill, junior music education major from Mustang, Oklahoma, Andrew Deaver, first year graduate student from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Jimmy Dorsaint, senior music performance major from Houston, Texas, Victor Cruz, junior music performance major from Wylie, Texas,  Christa Naber, junior music performance major from Frisco, Texas, and Dylan Halliday, senior music performance major from Paris, Texas.

We are raising money to pay for IWBC registration fees, airfare, hotel, meals, and ground transportation.  Thank you for considering helping the wonderful students of the OSU Trombone Octet.  The opportunity to represent OSU, Oklahoma, and the United States at this prestigious event, is something truly special.  This will not only change the lives of the members of the OSU Trombone Octet, but it will introduce the wonderful spirit of Oklahoma State University to many new friends.

Generous supporters of our Trombone program at the Greenwood School of Music, Bob and Pam Spinks, have agreed to match every gift to this project, dollar for dollar up to $5,000.
