Creating a family-friendly study space for veterinary students and their children
Veterinary school takes a village, and sometimes, that village needs a study room.
Several DVM students at OSU are also parents of young children. It is not uncommon for children to spend evenings in McElroy Hall while their parents study, often with limited space where they can safely and quietly stay nearby. Some families also find themselves taking their children to other buildings across campus during study hours.
Creating a designated family study space within the CVM library would provide a safe, welcoming environment where students can focus on their studies while keeping their children close by. A thoughtfully designed space could include comfortable seating, quiet activities and child-friendly resources, allowing parents to continue studying without having to choose between their academic responsibilities and their families.
This small but meaningful improvement would help make the CVM a more family-friendly environment and recognize the realities of our students’ lives outside the classroom. Supporting our students means supporting the people who support them, too.
You Can Create a Space for Families to Thrive
With your support, at least one enclosed study room upstairs in the CVM library could be transformed into a dual-purpose study space and quiet play area for younger children. Costs would be minimal and could include basic furniture, paint, a small bookcase and books, a toy or art supply storage bin and a child-sized table and chairs. Your gift will help create a welcoming space that makes a meaningful difference for veterinary students and their families.
