Pathway to the Classroom for OSU Teachers
An essential piece of a teacher education program is the internship (student teaching), during which all students preparing to teach conduct a full-time internship for at least a full semester. It is extremely difficult to work even part-time during that semester, as the internship is itself a full-time job. Both the body of research and our candidates’ feedback confirm that this opportunity to work with an excellent mentor in the field during which teacher candidates apply their learning, receive ongoing feedback, and hone their craft is so critically important. Because of this opportunity to practice in the schools what they're learning on campus throughout their program -- and then full-time as an intern (student teacher) -- OSU educators are fully prepared to serve children’s diverse learning needs. They’ll graduate from OSU ready to equip our children and teens for the challenges of today and tomorrow! During this stage of their program, our future educators may face financial challenges; in addition, costly certification exams and transportation costs to the school can increase that difficulty. A donation to this scholarship fund will help teacher candidates with financial need as they begin their internship, nearing the end of the path to certification and ultimately, into their own classrooms!
