The pups ruled the evening at last week’s Bow Wow Film Festival. We’re grateful for the crowd of support from everyone coming out to meet the pet therapy teams, eat some pupcorn, and enjoy the funniest collection of short films. It is because of your support that Pete’s Pet Posse raised more than $5,400 for Pet Therapy programming at Oklahoma State University in one night! These gifts will be put to work immediately by ensuring we have the happiest, healthiest pups to serve our university. We hope you’ll paws for a moment and check out some of the pictures from the awesome evening.

Nala is affectionately called a “princess on wheels!” In July 2011, Nala suffered a back injury known as intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) and was brought to OSU’s Veterinary Medical Hospital for surgery and care. That’s where she met Jill Murray, a Registered Veterinary Technician, in the College of Veterinary Medicine. Jill later adopted Nala in August when her former owners became unable to provide the specialized care she required. Despite surgery and rehabilitation, the damage to Nala’s spinal cord was too severe, leaving her paralyzed, and in her doggie wheelchair. Nala and Jill are excited to be part of Pete’s Pet Posse.
Nala likes to make visits to Tulsa to meet the Medical School students during their often stressful finals week. Here’s what Jill Murray has to say about one of their recent visits to OSU Tulsa: “It was (for me anyway) one of the best visits with the med students who just melted on the floor with dogs between exams, but we also had some great conversation as they tried to apply what they are studying to Nala’s medical condition, equating it with human disease and it just morphed into questions and conversations. It was also great to see these “human” doctors see and experience firsthand the value of pet therapy as this is something that is slowly starting to become more accepted in human medicine. Nala’s condition just gets the conversation started with anyone she meets and I see her showing people the value of acceptance and overcoming hurdles without self-pity.”
