Be Brave – Support MFP

We Serve to Train Fire Service Professionals

The OSU-Oklahoma City Municipal Fire Protection (MFP) degree program offers technical based course work for students wanting to work for a fire department, but also for fire service professionals looking for career advancement. MFP courses are delivered in a mix of traditional classroom setting, online, and hands-on skill days. Hands-on skills are required for students to learn and develop safe and proficiency in firefighter techniques.

The MFP program is housed in the Public Safety Training Center at 3501 W. Reno Avenue on the south end of the OSU-Oklahoma City campus. Our building in mainly classroom style, with one emergency medical services open room for lab and ambulance simulation. With this set up, the MFP program struggles to adequately provide a site and equipment for our students. We have historically partnered with local fire departments to conduct hands-on skill training and live fire exercises. These activities are required for certification.

Our Challenge is a Need for Equipment

To fulfill the requirements of firefighting skill training, the MFP program will need to plan to acquire equipment over time. Higher education institutions have been under a budget reduction phase over the last couple years. This year we are anticipating approximately 6% reduction.

Firefighting equipment can be expensive and is currently out of the range of our ability to acquire. This project is a starting point to begin to address the need to adequately train our student. All are pricing estimates from internet sites and manufacturers.

Out of all the public safety programs at OSU-Oklahoma City, the MFP program is the only program that lacks basic training equipment. We have a limited supply of firefighter turnout gear and self-contained breathing apparatus, and rely on local fire departments to fill in the gaps of gear and equipment. We take pride in our students and the program we deliver. We do the best we can with the items on hand, but the limitations are apparent. We must rely on the partnerships we have formed with the local fire departments, or our students would not qualify for the firefighter certification process. This would drastically impact our program and the viability of our program.

Our Program Needs Your Help

We're asking you to make a gift of any size to help our students train with equipment they desperately need and deserve. Any financial support will directly benefit our students and the regional community. We thank you for your consideration of our program.

Your contribution to this Oklahoma State University PhilanthroPete project will be managed and receipted through the OSU Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization. Contributions are fully tax deductible unless otherwise indicated in the project rewards section.
