The Sports Media Summer Camp started in 2007, and 27 campers have attended Oklahoma State University. Several have attended the camp twice, and a few have been to three.
However, not everyone can afford to experience Sports Media Camp once, let alone two or three times. We have a goal of fundraising $4,500 in order to provide a scholarship to one student, every year, for the next six years, who will attend Sports Media Camp.
While on campus, the students get experience in several areas of journalism. We keep them busy. For example: They learn interviewing and researching skills; have a news conference with an OSU coach or a former OSU player; write a story on the news conference; do a field report; anchor a sports report in the studio; and cover a minor league baseball game to do play-by-play and analysis.
Campers get plenty of hands-on experience, and the four professors provide a lot of feedback.
As a bonus, the campers somehow have the energy to continue the midnight basketball game tradition (with a pizza delivery) after returning from the baseball game.
So help us provide a scholarship to a fellow sports lover who will get incomparable hands on experience in the sports media field, before they even step into a college classroom. By donating to our scholarship fund, you may be funding the next Holly Rowe or Kirk Herbstreit of the world.
The best on the team in their position, makes a big impact when it matters!
