El Rancho is a community of 370 households in the heart of Guatemala's countryside. Unfortunately, the community is running low on a critical resource: clean drinking water. El Rancho's water source is seasonably unreliable, and the community is currently running low on water suitable for human consumption due to bacterial contamination. This contributes to poor health and hygiene in the community. This leads to many adverse effects on the community's livelihood. For example, women must spend a significant amount of time traveling to gather water for their families or to wash clothing.
The students at Oklahoma State University's chapter of Engineers Without Borders are committed to solving this crucial humanitarian issue and improving the livelihood of El Rancho's population. Our mission is to utilize tools learned in the classroom to create meaningful change for the world's most impacted communities while getting hands-on experience.
Our chapter is responsible for creating the water distribution design and construction drawings, preparation of the remote implementation construction plan and budget, and drafting a facilities and maintenance plan. We are also responsible for raising funds related to accomplishing the project, including costs pertaining to construction, materials, and labor.
We're excited to announce that we are officially entering the implementation stage of our project, and will commence the construction of a clean water pipeline over the upcoming months.
However, the pipeline ultimately cannot be constructed without the help of generous donors. Grants and contributions nearly fund our whole organization. Donations mean the world to us; they show we're not alone in the fight to build a brighter future.
