The Oklahoma Intercollegiate Legislature (OIL) is a student-run mock government that replicates all three branches of the state government of Oklahoma. Besides the mock legislature, OIL also contains a mock executive branch, a moot court, and a press corps. Any students interested in politics, law, or government processes will find the networking opportunities, experiences, and friends they seek at OIL in a semi-competitive environment.
Throughout the semester, students prepare for session where all competitions take place. At session, students present and debate bills, create journalistic pieces and compete in moot court rounds. Bill topics have previously related to the agriculture industry, small businesses, healthcare, transportation, and many other topics. While in session, students can gain new perspectives from students from other universities across the state and make industry connections and lifelong friendships. OIL strives to empower future leaders with the tools, connections, and experiences to succeed after college.
Costs for session usually add up to $6,500 for forty competitors, with $2,800 covering registration fees and $3,700 covering reservations for hotels and the Oklahoma state capital, which comes out to roughly $160 per person. However, OIL never wants funding to be why students cannot attend session and gain valuable skills and connections that will set them up for success in the future, so all funds will go towards reducing the cost members have to pay. Therefore, we greatly appreciate any support you provide.
