Thank you for helping the OSU Crops Team with achieving their fundraising goal! In two days, we raised over 80% of our overall goal, and we could not have been successful without your generous support. This next Tuesday, we will fly out to Modesto, CA, for the NACTA Crops Contest. We will also tour a few agricultural production operations in California. Your support allows the team to not only fund the travel but will also support all meals, which helps remove the burden on our students. Our 2023 NACTA Team can be seen below.
Back row (L-R): Garrett Bacchetti (Tracy, CA), Tyler Steichen (Ponca City, OK), and William Patterson (Summers, AR)
Front row (L-R): Annie Brewster (Lubbock, TX), Tori Booker (Headrick, OK), and Amy Lane (Marland, OK)
We will be providing updates as we travel. You can keep up with our trip either on Twitter: @OSU_Plants or Instagram: OkState_CropsTeam
Once again, thank you for supporting our students!

We are 1 week away from flying out to Modesto, California, to attend the NACTA judging conference. Our students are busy preparing, and I wanted to show you how we prepare for the plant ID portion of the contest.
We have an amazing teaching greenhouse that opened in the fall of 2019. The Greenhouse Learning Center allows us to grow crops and weeds for our students to identify. We grow large amounts of our main crops for growth staging labs and learning opportunities for our crops team members.
As our students proceed to internships and jobs, we are grateful for the ability to provide these critical hands-on activities for our students. This is not a small feat; we couldn't do this without the help of our undergraduate and graduate Teaching Assistants.
We just completed a practice contest in Canyon, TX at WTAMU. This was an amazing contest experience and provided an opportunity for students to interact with schools from Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Iowa.
The contest consists of plant identification, lab practical, math exam, and general agronomic knowledge exam.
The students are going to be busy continuing to practice for our contest in Modesto, CA. We can’t wait to provide more updates as we prepare this spring.
Thank you for supporting the OSU Crops Team!
The OSU Crops Team began in the 1920s. This team helped train students into grain graders who would then work for various ports and other grain selling and trading locations.
As the team travels to Modesto, CA. We wanted to showcase one of the top commodities in Stanislaus County.
Since a bushel of Wheat is 60 lbs, we wanted this level to represent of the most iconic grain crops grown in the state of Oklahoma.
Hundredweight (cwt) is the standard unit of measure for rice. We don't have much rice in Oklahoma, but California is the second largest rice producing state in the nation.
Triple Nickle or Delta Pine 555 was a standout cotton variety for many years. This is the average airfare cost for Crops Team members traveling to Modesto, CA. If you donate at this level, you will receive an invitation to the Senior Sendoff Picnic at the end of the spring semester.
A ton is 2,000 lbs, so this level is showing a "ton" of support for the OSU Crops Team. If you donate at this level, you will receive an invitation to the Senior Sendoff Picnic at the end of the spring semester.
