As a self-supported team, the Competitive Cheer and STUNT club pays out-of-pocket or fundraises to cover all the expenses related to competing. Each year the team travels to Daytona Beach, Florida to compete at the National Cheerleaders Association Collegiate National Championship in April. They won the small co-ed division in 2010, 2012, and 2019. They have placed 2nd in the all girl division since 2021 and they are working hard this year to place 1st.
One of the items needed for competition is a uniform. Uniforms cost more than $200 per athlete. Uniforms are owned by the club and re-used each year so that club members do not have an added expense each year. The uniforms the club is currently using were purchased in 2015 and 2016. The team members would love, and deserve, a fresh look.
The year starts with a week long set of practice to prepare for camp. It is at camp where the team earns a bid to the National Championship. They then practice all year to represent OSU to the best of their ability. This includes practicing during all of spring break when most other students are taking a well-deserved break. The year ends in April in Daytona Beach, FL, but the memories last forever.
