OSU's Family & Consumer Science Leaders for Tomorrow

Throughout each academic year, there is a multitude of learning opportunities for OSU students majoring in Family and Consumer Sciences Education (FCSE) at the local, state, and national levels. These opportunities encompass events hosted by organizations such as the Oklahoma and National Extension Associations of Family and Consumer Sciences, the Oklahoma and American Associations of Family and Consumer Sciences, as well as Oklahoma Summit for CareerTech educators. Additionally, student-focused leadership organizations, named 4-H and FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America), hold numerous gatherings both locally and nationally. Our exposure to these organizations began in our FCS Education pedagogy classes, and some of our students were active members during their junior and senior high school years.  Many of these events offer workshops and hands-on activities that help our FCSE major students develop practical skills relevant to their future careers. These skills include networking, communication, problem-solving, and leadership, which they would bring into their future learning environments.

Upon graduating from OSU, our journey as FCS teachers or county Extension educators will involve advising FCCLA or 4-H, respectively. Furthermore, we are in the process of establishing a Collegiate FCCLA Club at OSU, which will bring additional opportunities for our students to travel and gain experience as FCCLA advisers before entering our careers.

We believe that receiving financial support to attend even a portion of these meetings and events would significantly enhance our preparedness for our future careers as FCS teachers and FCCLA advisers or as FCS/4-H Cooperative Extension Service county educators. Your generous contributions would be invaluable in shaping our professional journey in the world of Family and Consumer Sciences!
