Week 4: Layering on the Love through Lasagna

April 21, 2024

So many of us have had the experience of being provided a meal when we've fallen ill or when welcoming a new member into our families. The Lions Meadows of Hope Family Center, located outside of Perkins, OK, is a community of fostering families that welcomes new foster children frequently and often with short notice. That provides groups like FYA the opportunity to provide pre-made family meals that can be given to households as a new child joins them.

Earlier in the spring, FYA members organized a trip to Lions' Family Center to cook pans of lasagna on-site to be kept in Lions' freezer for whenever they might be needed. The staff at Lions graciously opened their space to us and we had a wonderful time working together as a team. Our members called this club event "Made with Love."

A few ingredients and a kitchen to put them together in gave our members a fantastic opportunity to support a community partner doing important work. We love Lions Meadows of Hope and look forward to organizing additional activities with them in future.

Your donation to FYA through Philanthropete helps us take on projects that positively impact the experiences of foster children and fostering families in our wider community.

Thank you for your generosity.

Week 3: FYA Takes Service "Into the Streets!"

April 13, 2024

Among their core values, Foster Youth Advocates seeks to build community and serve communities. Today, FYA members joined the larger OSU community for "Into the Streets," our campus' semesterly day of service. We had the privilege of working on a project in Yale, OK. Along with the Sociology Club, we worked with our site host to rake her property, pick and sort pecans, and plant flowers. We had a blast! Not only did we enjoy our tasks, we were given the opportunity to play with our host's baby goats...no kidding!  Ha!

By the time we left, our host eagerly invited us back to help on another project in the fall and our group members were equally enthusiastic to return.

By giving to FYA through this campaign, you're providing needed funds to help us participate in meaningful service to others.

Please consider a gift to spur our group in their desire to serve others together.

Week 2: New Leaders, New Opportunities!

April 03, 2024

Last week, students in Foster Youth Advocates (FYA) elected their officer team for next year.

In hearing our candidates speak about FYA--what it means to them and what they want to see the group accomplish next year--common themes emerged.

"It's important to be active in the things you believe in," shared Domenic.

Many spoke about FYA as a place of belonging for students, both former foster youth and students passionate to learn and do more for the foster care community.

Multiple candidates spoke about wanting to increase awareness of FYA on OSU's campus so that our students with experience in foster care know there is a supportive community available to them.

Your gifts to FYA through this campaign will help this student organization expand its reach into the OSU community, connect students to a place of belonging, and provide valuable leadership development for students.

We're at 15% of our goal. Help us increase that percentage as FYA seeks to increase its presence on our campus!

Thank you for your generosity!

$25

Fuel the Work

This amount will help FYA members travel to an off-site service project with a community agency in our area. We volunteer with foster care and child service agencies to support the great work they do!

$50

Spread the Word

Former foster youth are considered a "hidden population" on college campuses. This donation amount will help FYA purchase promotional materials to get the word out to our Cowboys with experience in foster care that there's a place for them in our organization!

$100

Feed the Body & Soul

FYA likes to provide meals in our meetings whenever possible. Not only is community built around a shared meal, but it also helps meet a physical/felt need for our members. This donation amount will help us order a group meal for an FYA meeting

$150

Spark the Mind

FYA members are eager to learn from others about how to best support their fellow students with experience in foster care. This learning can occur through conference attendance, meeting with experts in our area, reading together, and more. This donation amount will allow us to pay for educational materials for our members so that we can better understand and serve members of the Cowboy community who identify as former foster youth.

$200

Make it Home

FYA has to cooked meals that can be frozen and later provided to fostering families through Lions Meadows of Hope when a new foster child joins a family. We are eager to continue to do this and other events to promote positive experiences for current foster youth. This donation amount will allow us to run more events and projects, providing our members with opportunities to lead and give back.
