Retention Initiative for Student Excellence (RISE) was established within the Oklahoma State University Division of Access and Community Impact in 2006. The program focuses on retaining a cohort of 50 first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented students at OSU. RISE is a special and spectacular program that has served over 900 OSU students and awarded over $500,000 in program stipends to its participants. We are designed to assist a select group of talented and diverse first year students transition to OSU and primarily focuses on addressing academic barriers that might challenge students, and have a second-year retention rate averaging 95% in the last five years.
In a partnership between RISE and OSU Global since 2022, RISE Scholars will return to Limoges, France for a two-week faculty-led study abroad opportunity from June 12-25, 2024. The partnership aimed to provide a study abroad opportunity to underrepresented students in a cohort-based program.
A couple of the primary learning objectives are to:
-Develop an introductory familiarity with the history, culture, and business/technology industries of the Limousin region of France
-Recognize and articulate some understanding of critical cultural aspects and key indicators associated with a contemporary, diverse, and evolving French society
While in France, students will take French lessons, explore an underground cave, visit a labratory, tour several facilities, and more!
The majority of the RISE Scholars who attend the study abroad trip have never been out of the country before, and they return from France with an interest to continue studying abroad in the future.
The funds raised will cover costs associated with the trip, such as meals, tuition and fees, airfare, and housing. Thank you for your support!
