About the Flying Aggies

The OSU Flying Aggies Flight Team Achieved Their Best Placement In Years At This Nationals In The Spring of 2024

The OSU Flying Aggies are an aviation interest organization. As the second-oldest club on campus today, our goal is to foster an environment for the community, encourage interest in aviation, provide safe and economical flying for our members, and to advance the knowledge of membership in aeronautical and related subjects. The Flying Aggies are also home to the competitive NIFA Flight Team, who competes locally and nationally. Known for their orange flight suits and orange airplanes, the Flight Team has won 9 National Championships and received the most prestigious award in collegiate aviation, the Loening Trophy, which has been reserved for the best flight program in the United States, 21 times.

This year, we're splitting our Philanthropete tiers between the team and the club! Any money donated to the flight team tiers will be used exclusively for them, and the same for the club. Expenses for N600SU will come in large majority out of the club account, so if you wish to donate purely for Sixty, please donate to the club. If you wish to donate for general competition expenses, please donate using one of the designated flight team tiers.

With Sixty Down For Overhaul, We've Relied On Other Events Like Tailgates To Unite Us Together! 2024.

The Flying Aggies' club aircraft, N600SU, is a 1969 Cessna 150K affectionately known as "Sixty" (or "Sixty OSU" by many alumni). From Flight Team competitions across the country to local fly-ins, Sixty has been an unforgettable part of Flying Aggies' history since her acquisition.

This Year, All Three Schools From Oklahoma Competed At National Competition, With OSU Coming Out On Top!

Left To Right: SOSU, LeTourneau, OSU, OU

While we all know Sixty is priceless, we also know that she's pretty expensive. Engine overhaul is costing a significant amount, and has eaten up the vast majority of our set-aside maintenance funds. As of now, the total cost is over $35,000 including other issues found during annual. Thankfully, through generous donations over the years, we've kept 60 in the air. Now more than ever though, we need help from donors like you to keep Sixty flying as we discover more systems in need of repair, like the electrical or communications systems. Please consider donating to make sure that Aggies for years to come are able to make memories together in N600SU.

United Captain Gatlen Sysk Speaks to Our Membership About Resumes and Career Planning After Our First Meeting

The Flying Aggies Flight Team has been a staple of the club since our inception in 1948, winning the national championship 9 times, and the Loenning Trophy 21 times- more than any other school. This year, we're fully self-funding every cent of our venture, from practice to food to transportation of planes, to hotels, to competition itself. For that reason, we at the team are doing our best to fundraise both with Philanthropete and our membership. Each one of us has reached out through email, letters, and phone calls to raise enough money to make sure this team soars at regionals, and this is one part of that effort. The estimated cost of regionals this year will be near $28,000, with Nationals in the spring closing in on $34,000+.  We can raise some of that amount ourselves through dues and cutting expenses, but to get across the finish line we need you. Any amount would help, and we're extremely grateful for your assistance in keeping this 76-year-old tradition alive!

$10

Aggies Fellow (Club Tier)

Join us as we write new stories every day with a $10 donation!

$40

Region IV (Flight Team Tier)

The Flying Aggies Flight Team competes in Region IV. This region includes Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Mississippi. Though there are many schools, every year is a fight for first against Letourneau and Southeastern Oklahoma State. Help us keep up the fight with a $40 donation!

$65

65 for Sixty (Club Tier)

Part of our mission is to provide safe and economical flying for our members, and N600SU is a huge part of that. For that reason, we offer the most affordable rate around, at $65 an hour!

$100

100-hour Inspection(Club Tier)

Did you know our club airplane, sixty, needs an inspection every 100 flight hours? That doesn't seem like a lot, but 100 hours comes fast when Sixty is up, which is why we save now. Help us keep our airplane airworthy and club thriving by donating $100.

$150

Practice Flights (Flight Team)

This year every pilot is paying their own way. Given the OSU 152 rate of $110/hr, a practice flight during the week for both types of landings may be a $150 flight! Help sponsor our pilot's practice so we can show up ready to win!

$300

30 Big Ones (Club Tier)

The Flying Aggies Flight Team has won one of the most prestigious awards in collegiate aviation, the Loening Trophy, 21 times. The Flight Team has also won 9 National Championships! We have earned countless other awards throughout the years, but these 30 are the most impressive!

$760

76th Anniversary (Club Tier)

Our goal as The Flying Aggies is to foster community, encourage interest in aviation, and provide safe and economical flying for our members. We've grown so much since our founding in 1948, and we are so excited for what the future holds! Help us celebrate our 75th anniversary this year by donating at this level.

$1,948

Est 1948 (Club Tier)

The Flying Aggies were founded in the Fall of 1948, making us the second-oldest organization on campus! $2,000 seems like a lot, and it is! Unfortunately, aviation is an expensive endeavor, and repairs for simple breaks like lights can cost upwards of $500! Help us prepare for the worst with this donation tier!

$5,000

Engine Overhaul (Club Tier)

The recommended engine overhaul time for Sixty is in progress! We afforded this by saving for four years, so help us get started in a significant way for the next overhaul!
