What is our project?
We’re excited to launch engaging community classes designed to teach conversational American Sign Language (ASL) in a fun, interactive way! Whether you're a beginner or looking to refresh your skills, these hands-on sessions will empower you to communicate confidently with the Deaf community. Through interactive activities, group practice, and real-world scenarios, you'll quickly learn to sign and understand ASL for everyday conversations. Led by native ASL users who are passionate about giving back to the community, these classes are a fantastic opportunity to build connections, break down language barriers, and create a more inclusive environment!
Location, location, location!
To make classes convenient, we’re offering them in two, possibly three different locations across the OKC metro area. Each class will last one hour. Why multiple locations? We understand people are busy, so we’ve made it easier by reducing commute time! And if you miss a session at one location, you can attend the same lesson at another spot, giving you flexibility to fit learning into your schedule.
Length of program:
Each location will cover the same 3 modules over the course of the program. Every week, all locations will offer identical lessons, ensuring that no matter where you attend, you'll stay on track with the course content.
When? How long?
Classes will be held during the evening, likely starting around 6 PM, a time when most people are off work. Each class will be one hour, with three total hours of learning by the end of the program. We want to make this as accessible as possible while respecting your busy schedule! The first class will kick off on the first week of November and conclude on the third week of November.
What can you expect to learn?
Everyone learns at their own pace, so personal results will vary. At a minimum, you’ll leave knowing survival signs and the ASL alphabet, enabling you to start a basic conversation with a Deaf person. With more practice, some participants will gain confidence in holding full, everyday conversations.
How your support helps:
Your support is crucial in helping us break communication barriers and foster deeper connections with the Deaf community. By contributing, you're helping us create an inclusive environment where everyone can be seen and heard. Your generosity will also allow our instructors to participate in professional development, improving their teaching skills and enhancing future classes. Thank you for being a part of this important mission—we couldn’t do it without you! Together, we're making a lasting impact on accessibility and inclusivity.
Your contribution is a Beacon! Your inspiration shines bright for us!
