The nursing program at OSU-OKC plans to host our first White Coat Ceremony in the spring of 2025. The OSU-OKC nursing program has been producing highly qualified RN's for over 50 years. The White Coat Ceremony has become a rite of passage for students seeking a nursing degree or medical degree at many schools beginning the early 1990's. The OSU College of Nursing at the Stillwater campus has hosted 2 events. The White Coat Ceremony involves faculty placing the white coat onto the shoulders of each student before they begin the clinical portion of their nursing education. The students also pledge to provide care in a respectful and client-centered manner as well as treating every person they encounter with kindness. The ceremony is a solemn rather than celebratory occasion. To the students the ceremony will symbolize the hope and promise that they are beginning to fulfill their dream of becoming nurses. To faculty the ceremony will symbolize the trust that has been placed upon each student that they will fulfill all of the expectations of the faculty regarding providing the highest standards of patient care.
The plan for the donated funds is the purchase of white coats for the nursing faculty. The students' coats will be purchased if funding is available. The coats for faculty will be reused by the faculty in future ceremonies. The student white coats will be used by the student until they graduate from our program.
As 2025 is the year of the first OSU-OKC White Coat Ceremony commemorate the date with a $20.25 donation!
