Student Research - Ron Petrin Memorial Fund 2026
Strudents present at the Society for Military History in Washington, D.C.
Our History students do cool things (with financial help from the Petrin Fund)! Several OSU History students recently presented their research at the Society for Military History in Washington, D.C. PhD student, Jessi Simmons, and MA students Molly Adams and Brent Jones presented their research relating to their travel study to the Philippines last summer, the exhibit they curated at the Stillwater History Museum, and independent research for their thesis work. Please make a donation and share this appeal. Only 11 days left to give.
In the past 2 years, students have traveled nationally to places like Pennsylvania, Illinois, Hawaii, Texas, New Mexico, and Kansas. Some students have even traveled internationally to places like the UK, Germany, the Philippines, Japan, and Thailand for their research.
Your support matters! Help support student research travel and conference funding for future historians.
Off to a Great Start!
Hi everyone,
We’re off to a wonderful start—thank you to everyone who has already supported the Petrin Fund! Because of your generosity, we’ve already reached 20% of our goal, and we’re building real momentum.
This fund supports students like PhD candidate Madelyn Powers, who recently presented at the Western History Association's meeting in fall 2025. According to Madelyn: "Travel funding made it possible for me to attend conferences like the WHA in Albuquerque, which I wouldn't have been able to otherwise."
Opportunities like these are essential to professional development—but they depend on funding. That's because research travel allows students to:
· Access primary sources
· Build professional networks
· Prepare for careers in academia and beyond
If you’ve been meaning to give, now is a great time to join us and help sustain this momentum. Thank you again for investing in our students.
