Beyond the Classroom: Expanding the CDIS Undergraduate Experience
Description
For students studying communication sciences and disorders (CDIS), some of the most meaningful learning happens beyond the classroom. CDIS is a campus organization open to all students. Working alongside faculty, observing research and clinical practice, using specialized technologies, engaging with communities, and presenting their work can transform what students learn in a course into experiences that shape their education and future careers.
Beyond the Classroom will create paid, faculty-mentored experiential-learning opportunities for CDIS undergraduate students at Oklahoma State University. Students will work individually or in small teams on projects connecting research, clinical learning, technology, and community engagement. They may help design experiments, collect and analyze data, explore emerging communication technologies, participate in supervised community outreach, or develop educational resources for individuals and families. Every experience will have defined learning goals and lead to a meaningful product, such as a research poster, presentation, community resource, technology project, or research report.
Your gift will help make these opportunities accessible to students regardless of their financial circumstances. Our $10,000 goal will support paid undergraduate fellowships, research and project materials, technology and community-engagement activities, and opportunities for students to present their work at research and professional conferences. Donor support will also help students share what they have accomplished through an undergraduate experiential-learning showcase. These uses closely follow the budget and activities established in the project application. PhilanthropeteProjectApplicatio…
