Description

Who Are We?

We are the National Association of Hispanic Journalists student chapter at OSU, and we are raising money to send our students to the national NAHJ conference in Minneapolis in August 2027.

Members attend sessions to learn more about the industry, in a way it can’t be offered in the classroom, and network with professionals to grow, get feedback, and meet potential mentors.

Our goal is to continue to support attendance for our students FREE of cost! Any donation, no matter how big or small, helps us get closer to that goal in 2027.

As part of our professional development, we have started to expand our reporting to reach Spanish speakers in the Stillwater community. Since many Hispanics get their news on social media, we want to reach that audience by offering both English and Spanish news coverage.

As student journalists, we have been producing bilingual news content on social media to better inform our community and provide news coverage for underrepresented groups.

The National Association of Hispanic Journalists at OSU is a campus organization open to all students.

We hope to showcase our work as journalists at OSU in a panel at the NAHJ conference. We want to show student journalists that you don’t need a big studio or equipment to inform your community and reach your audience.

Student Testimonials

Hi, my name is Miranda Martinez and I am the president of NAHJ at OSU. I’m a junior majoring in multimedia journalism. I attended the NAHJ conference in Chicago and New Orleans, which were some of the best experiences I’ve had during my time at OSU. Being surrounded by people who look like me and share the same culture was so fulfilling. During the conference, I worked on networking, building my skills, and embracing my culture. Since attending the conference, my networking skills and confidence have improved. I made lifelong friendships in New Orleans, and I would not have met them if I didn’t go to the conference.

I feel like I can not only have a spot at the table, but I also deserve a spot. I would love to return to the conference this summer to meet more people! My experience and skills are growing by the day, and I would love to show recruiters what I can do.

Hi, my name is Ana Arias, and I am a first-generation Hispanic woman majoring in sports media. Being not only a member of NAHJ but also an officer serving as the secretary has provided me with the perfect platform to hone my skills as a journalist and to strengthen the representation and community of our Spanish speakers as a Hispanic woman going into sports. During the conference, I was able to win a one-on-one session with Tony Martinez, on-air broadcasting coach, where I received feedback that I wouldn't have in an everyday classroom situation. I was able to bring in my skillset from before being at OSU, but the testimony is what I will be able to leave with after my time in NAHJ.

Thank you for your support!
