We Still Need Your Help to Make This Possible

We Need Your Help to Bring THE WALL THAT HEALS to Stillwater, Oklahoma

SOME COME TO REMEMBER FALLEN COMRADES

SOME COME TO REMEMBER LOVED ONES

AND SOME COME TO LEARN

We have chosen to work with the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Foundation (VVMF) to bring a traveling Vietnam War Memorial Wall to Stillwater. The VVMF’s The Wall That Heals is a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C.In addition to The Wall That Heals the VVMF provides a mobile Education Center, which is contained in a 53’ commercial trailer. The Education Center houses exhibits which include: photos, letters, and memorabilia left at the Memorial. These exhibits are designed to tell the story of the Vietnam War, The Wall and the era surrounding the conflict. The mobile Education Center helps many visitors, particularly students, to put American experiences in Vietnam in a historical and cultural context.VVMF also affixes a 20’x20’ tent to the rear passenger side of the trailer. The tent serves as the information center for The Wall That Heals containing materials, handouts, and the books used to look up locations of individual names on The Wall.Individuals are also given the opportunity to complete request forms for “name rubbings” from the original memorial in Washington D.C.

In addition to The Wall That Heals, the Education Center, and the information center VVMF provides learning materials for area schools. These materials include, but are not limited to:lesson plans for various activities, a field trip guide, and other learning aids.An example of materials available is Echoes From The Wall the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund’s comprehensive high-school level curriculum on the Vietnam War and era. This curriculum is available free of charge and comes complete with background readings, in-class and extension activities tied to national learning standards, and lecture presentations incorporating primary source audio and video that can be presented in the classroom.

The VVMF also provides press and other promotional materials and training materials for volunteer guides at The Wall That Heals.VVMF continues to accept photos and memories of those service members whose names are on The Wall and will be accepting and scanning additions to their collect while The Wall That Heals is in Stillwater. These photos and family memories will be incorporated into the Virtual Wall of Faces within the Education Center at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C.

Our primary effort is to bring The Wall to Stillwater to recognize our Vietnam Era Veterans and their families for their sacrifices in defense of our Nation and to “Welcome Home” these veterans. You will understand that the educational benefits offered by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Foundation’s The Wall That Heals will have a significant impact on our communities and the education of our younger citizens.

Again we ask for not only your financial support in this endeavor, but also please share this with your families, friends, and everyone you can to help us honor our Vietnam Era Veterans and remember this tumultuous time in our Nation’s history. This is particularly poignant during the Vietnam War Commemoration in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War.
