Opening doors to exciting career opportunities through the field trips offered for our students.

United We Can: Helping youth create a different future possible self!

United We Can is an evidence-based program that works with low-income, minority students and their families to reduce risky behaviors and increase enrollment in higher education. One key aspect of the United We Can program is helping youth to create a “future possible self”. Youth are exposed to different career opportunities through trips to OSU Stillwater, where they attend workshops covering diverse academic areas led by faculty and graduate students, eat with students in the university cafeteria, and tour the campus. For most of our students, this summer experience will be the first time they have ever stepped foot on a university campus. Our research suggests that as students do things like put on a white lab coat and interact with college students from similar ethnic backgrounds, they begin to see themselves in the future attending an institution of higher education. This shift in their mindset is the first step toward a brighter future for many of the youth we serve. Other aspects of the United We Can program are working with students throughout the year to develop the skills and relationships that will help them realize their newly formed future possible self.

United We Can is a free program to students and is run by faculty and staff from Oklahoma State University’s College of Education and Human Science, and Cooperative Extension Service. Funds raised through the PhilanthroPete program will be used to support student participation in field trips to local community partners and to OSU's Tulsa and Stillwater campuses where they learn about career opportunities in “behind the scenes” operations of institutions such as the Tulsa Health Department, Philbrook Museum of Art, and Tulsa Technology Center among others.

Your support is crucial to help us expand the United We Can program and allow more youth in the Tulsa area to experience the satisfaction and thrill of being positive contributors to their communities. The per/student cost to attend our summer program is approximately $250. Will you please help change a life and a future by supporting a student? Any amount, $5, $50, or $5,000 will be appreciated. Our goal is to raise $10,000 AND to have the greatest number of total contributors on our donor wall of any of the different organizations involved in the PhilanthroPete effort. Will you please help us reach our goal by giving any amount?

¿Podrías ayudarnos a alcanzar nuestro objetivo donando cualquier cantidad?
