In 1930, OSU architects constructed a barn that would be known as the OSU Swine Unit. The lovely scents from the swine unit flooded the air and as Stillwater grew, this became a problem in near-by neighborhoods and it was not the most welcoming smell to enter Stillwater with. The swine unit was relocated to a new area and this barn was left empty for 20+ years. We have now moved into the property and would love to keep the barn as it is a staple to OSU and patch up the holes and cracks.
Oklahoma is ranked 45th in food insecurity. Food pantries are being relied on to the point they cannot keep fresh produce in stock for families in need. The mission for the student farm is to harvest and supply our local food bank with fresh produce so families have the availability of having this nutrient source in their day to day diet. Help us raise Oklahomas ranking!
A $100 donation will allow us to buy materials that will help keep the farm running on a day to day bases. For example, shovels easily become broken or worn down and need to be replaced often. With $100, we can buy a few shovels to keep the farm up and running at its upmost prolificacy.
The new Student Farm is in partnership with Our Daily Bread to help serve the local community. Our Daily Bread serves about 250 households a week by providing fresh produce and other food products to those in need.
On average each week, the farm harvests around 500 pounds to take to Our Daily Bread. Even with a 500 pounds a week, Our Daily Bread is still running out of food to provide to families in need. With your donation we can double this number and be able to provide more fresh produce to the food bank and help reach more families!
